PVS packaging/sealing the image

Ha ha, I got a chance to do the changes to the image and package it as read only image for end users.

XenApp servers packaging is simpler as it seems but need to be very careful which version you are doing changes to. .

Will give a complete instructions on how I achived it, steps and best practices.

My life in IT in past 7 years.

Hello Guys,

After almost 3 years, I now logged into this Blog and want to become active again.
All these years.. hell lot of changes happened in virtualization and mostly with Citrix and its game of changing names of their products. Beginning from MetaFrame, Presentation Server, XenApp and XenDesktop Application sharing.  Yes, I know, its annoying. . .

OK, lets forget all these which everyone knows.

Why I'm back and starting blog is, not to forget what ever I started learning and commit to memory in these 7 years of XenApp administration and managing IT of different clients who are from different culture.(Yes, Culture matters mate!)

New things into my profile in recent days are as follows:

1. XenApp 4.5, 6.5
2. VMWare
3. Provisoning services of Citrix
4. App-V (Basics)
5. XenDesktop (Basics)
6. Citrix User Profile Management.
7. Netscalers (What needed basis)
8. Web Interface
9. Windows 2008 (Yes, It was hard to move from 2003 after 5 years )

Thanks to Ashish Ambasta and Kapil Singh, for their patience in teaching me and answering all sort of really silly questions.

More to come. .

how to change the date format for terminal server

Changes will affect only the user who is changing the date or time format:

Start->Settings->Control panel->Regional and Language Options-> under "Regional Options" click on "Customize" Button in the menu which popped up after clicking "Customize" button change the fields which you want to change.

Note: Changes will affect only to the user account who is changing the settings.

As we are in Terminal server environment/administrator, of course above is not our need. We need to do the changes which should affect all the users who use that server. In that case. please see below:

Start->Settings->Control panel->Regional and Language Options-> under "Regional Options" click on "Customize" Button in the menu which popped up after clicking "Customize" button change the fields which you want to change. and click Apply and close the window.

than the important one, Go to the "Advanced" tab under the "Regional and Language Options" check the option "apply all settings to the current user account and to the default user profile". Which saves the changes to the default user profile, so whenever you have a new user logged in then you have the changes.

now the question is what need to be done for the users who already started using the system. that means who's profile is already been created. Well, as a admin, its your call, you want the create the new profile for them? or anything which comes to your mind and which suits your environment or which is under your company's process.

I know this can also be achieved by using simple .reg key import while logging in. This situation suits for the server hosting multiple applications and only one application or one set of users need the changes.

What is the command to put the server into install mode?

A method to control the process to put the server into install mode from the command prompt:
1. Open a command window (Start - Run - cmd)
2. Type "change logon /disable" (without the quotes) to disallow new connections to the server
3. Use Terminal Services Manager to verify that there are no user sessions; send a message to connected users, requesting them to log off
4. Type "change user /install" (without the quotes) to put the server into install mode
5. Install your application
6. When the installation is completely finished, type "change user /execute" to put the server back into it's normal execute mode
7. Type "change logon /enable" to allow users to connect again
